Captain America 2: Movie Review

Wednesday, April 23, 2014

So I don't even know where to start.  How about if I start by telling you that this was-no joke- one of the best movies I've ever seen in my life.  It tops Avengers!!
One thing I admire about MARVEL is that they just keep getting better.  Captain America 2 crushed its prequel soundly!

Captain America, Chris Evans

Let's start with Captain America himself, our super hero of the day.  He (obviously) doesn't go through much character change, although it does show him still struggling a little to try and fit into the modern century after being gone so long.  He's a great super hero, and, unlike super man, who I can not relate to in any way, I do sympathize with Cap.  Not only is he suddenly thrown a curve ball about who's good and who's bad, which leaves him baffled and struggling for answers, but someone who he thought he knew turns bad and now he's forced to fight and try to kill this person.  !!!!!  Talk about connn-flict.

All in all he's a good character, not bad to look at, and although he doesn't go through any character change I say for this kind of movie it works well!

Sebastian Stan filming Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

The villian- oh my goodness this villain.  "The Winter Soldier"....... *cue dramatic music*
He was done so well.  Villains that only say two sentences in the entire movie don't generally strike me as well done, but this one was.  He communicated so much through his actions and his facial expressions, and the fact that he was being controlled was obvious.
All the drama that goes into who he once was and now who he is and who he is fighting combine in a climatic fight at the very end where you want him dead and yet you DON'T.  Which is very emotionally traumatic.

He's a highly trained assassin with super powers to match Cap's, which means they can harm each other but not do any vital damage.  At least- for most of the movie.

Next up, Natasha Romanoff.  She also didn't have much character development, although I love how they played up her confusion and searching for what to do when *SPOILER* Shield didn't turn out to be everything she thought it would be.   *END SPOILER*

I was all prepared for her to be annoying and smart-aleck and hitting on Captain America, but I was very pleasantly surprised.  The film makers had plenty of times where they could have played up a romance between them and they didn't.  By the end of the movie you see that they're just friends, which I'm okay with!

Then of course we have the falcon (BRILLIANT!), nick fury (still king of sarcasm), and loads of other clever characters I don't have time to go into.

This movie left me in awe.  In two and a half hours the film makers made me laugh and cry and cheer and FREAK OUT.  The plot twists in this movie are fantastic.  As a movie watcher with no idea of what's going to happen next, I hated it. But as a writer I loved it.
They created villains in not just people but in the past, the government, and the future.  It's a very dystopian feel, and much more gun violence then any of the other MARVEL films.  Definitely rated PG-13 for the violence.  No blood, just lots and lots of action.  My bro loved that part;)

All and all I give this movie five stars, it was so good.  I wish I could elaborate more but I waited too long on writing this review and this is about all I remember.  Maybe when we buy the movie (which we will) I can add more to the post.
Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier - really looking forward to this release
Looks like my job here is done.
