In which I ramble about something close to my heart: Dreams

Monday, July 01, 2013

God really speaks through everything, doesn't he?  Just today a girl on the OYAN forum posted a topic about how she was getting off for awhile because she wanted to spend more time pursueing what God wanted her to.  I read that thinking, *guilty*.
Then, an hour later, while washing dishes and dancing madly to awesome christian music, the song "Wondering" by TobyMac came on.  The basis for that song is about dreams close to our heart, and if they're what God really wants or if it's what WE want.  Again, guilty!

Now I'm really thinking, God, are you trying to tell me something?

Recently, as many of you know, I went to Summer Workshop.  It was a whole week of pure fun and inspiration and it was so amazing.  I desperately want to go back next year!  One of my big things for going, which I haven't really told anyone, was that I was looking for answers.  Is writing something I really want to pursue in my life?  Do I love it enough?  Am I good enough?  I was hoping God would show me clearly, yes or no.

Cough cough.  Is he ever clear?  In my case, not normally.  I came home with way more questions then before!!  Yes I love it!!  That was one thing I discovered.  And I'm not going to lie, I do have a talent with it.  But there's also the downside, that being the obvious fact that it doesn't pay well.  It's a lot of rejection, and hit or miss.  Rarely does an author become as popular as, say, J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter) or Susanna Collins (The Hunger Games).

So what're you doing, God?
I know I do such a terrible job of giving Him my dreams.  But the thing is, HE is the one who put them there in the first place!  He carefully picked everyone, wrapped them up with bows in our favorite colors, and waited to see if we gave it back to Him.  If we do, He is always willing to help us unwrap and learn how to use them.
I want to be the kind of girl who gives my gifts to God.  How about you?

  1. I loved your openness and honestness in this post! It was cool to see the other side of why you chose to go to OYAN. You are definitely a talented writer, and I believe that if you choose to give your dreams, He will use your gifts in ways you can't imagine... actually, my experience has been that He rarely fulfills our dreams the way I had imagined. Good thing His ways are better! :0

    1. Thanks, Hannah. your comments are always so encouraging:)
It's so true though! He knows the bigger picture that we can't see, and oftentimes it's so hard to trust that. But He DOES show it to us through the little things, like Summer Workshop, even if we might not realize it yet!

  2. God often takes our dreams in totally different directions than we had planned! Just know He gave you them for a reason and if anything, you have blessed me with your writing. Maybe you won't write the new Hunger Games, but you can use your writing as a platform to encourage others and glorify God. I can't wait to see where this writing takes you!

    1. Awww, thank you Mary!!!!!! I know it's easy for me to get caught up in that mindset of "I have to be as good as J.K. Rowling! I want to write a best selling series that everyone knows!" But that might not be the best for me in God's plan, and I have to trust that.
