MY new love

Thursday, March 28, 2013

So I know that Mary Frances' love is avocados, and how to incorporate them into dessert.  Hannah's is edamame, and just to show you how much she likes them, what if I told you she's starting a garden?  And edamame is the main plant??
Well, you all know that I love chocolate.  Anything chocolate.  So that's not my "new" love, though it will always be my first!!!  Currently, I love SMOOTHIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll eat them morning, noon and night.  And I love the healthy benefits to boot!  So this afternoon I was hungry for a snack.  My natural reaction- a chocolate covered chocolate chip granola bar!
Healthy?  Not a chance.  Delicious?  I think yes!
But...... "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

*sigh*

Setting it down reluctantly, I went to work on creating a smoothie.  But different then normal!!  I decided to go for a strawberry orange raspberry smoothie:)  It was delish.

Now if you want to go a little sweeter, I'd add more honey.  If not, then add more clementines!  It'll sure make it tangy:)

Berry Orange Smoothie

Ingredients:
  • A handful of fresh or frozen raspberries
  • 1 cup of fresh or frozen strawberries
  • 2 mini clementines in their already peeled apart little sections (or if you want to use oranges, then go with that!)
  • Honey
  • A cup of strawberry/vanilla/orange/raspberry yogurt (whatever flavor you want to come out more prominently)
  • A little bit of crushed ice
  • 1/4 cup orange juice (or berry juice)

Mix all ingredients in blender and enjoy!  And note that these are all just very general amounts, I never measure out my ingredients while making smoothies anymore.  A little more fruit here, maybe a spoonful of honey....:) :)  Makes me think of Mary Poppins.

-------------------------------

I feel like I really need to do a much better job of incorporating healthy little things into my life.  Instead of grabbing the chocolate covered granola bar, which is so much easier and honestly, really good, I could be spending a little more time making a smoothie that's so healthy, or slicing a juicy apple!
Same for my everyday life and relationship with Jesus.  Oftentimes I get overwhelmed with the vast amount of things that I need to work on.  Being judgtmental, or jealous, or selfish, or any thing else there is- I need a much better job of taking it day  by day, situation by situation, fulling trusting in God and leaning on Him.  Because He's there for us whenever we need help-I just know that I don't always look for it.
Now I'm not trying to say that the chocolate granola bar is bad- woah, this whole anology needs help.  Where am I going with this one, you may ask?  In a downward spiral, apparently. :)
I guess what I am saying is that Jesus  wants us to take extra steps to do what pleases Him.  Taking our time to make a smoothie, or a healthy avacado dessert, or planting edamame for future enjoyment- it's the same as taking the time to say something sweet to our siblings, or serve our parents, or do an extra chore without being asked.  He wants us to store up our treasures in heaven, where moth and rust don't destroy, and thieves won't break in and steal!  (in Hannah's case, these 'thieves' might be bunnies!)
I'm not all at saying that chocolate granola bars are bad, just like I'm not saying that the internet or TV or anything else we may enjoy is bad either!  But the Enemy twists it so that it takes our focus off of the fruit smoothies and puts it on the chocolate covered granola bars; good in themselves, but can shift your focus from our Savior!
So this week will you be leaning on Jesus' arm, with a delicious strawberry orange smoothie?  Or will you be clutching your stomach from one too many chocolate covered granola  bars?

  1. Since when are chocolate chocolate chip granola not healthy? Strawberries may have more nutrients, but I think we have to be careful when branding things unhealthy or off limits.
The principle is awesome though! I however will be trying to lean on Christ more with an avocado dessert clutched to my chest;) It will be challenging!

  3. I second MF's motion... smoothies are awesome for you, but gosh, eat the chocolate, too! :) I love your analogy at the end, though, about how what's easy may not always be what's best for us. BTW, your blog is SO fun to read! Your writing is just so... readable! Like I keep hoping there's more!!! Keep'em comming!(your amazing blog posts, I mean)

  4. You are both SO right! I didn't mean for it to sound quite like that...Chocolate granola bars are a treat and we don't have to deprive ourselves of them. But I guess what I was trying to get at was that I eat too many sugary things in my day, and I was trying to cut back on that! :) :)

    1. Well, you don't have to use yogurt. Lots of people I know don't put it in. Just do fruit, honey, juice, ice...The general things. Though add a lot more honey, since you won't have the yogurt to sweeten it up!
