Happy News!

Saturday, September 28, 2013

I killed a cricket today.  And NO that's not the happy news!  I'm coming to it!  Patience, my very young apprentice.  (I just watched Star Wars last night.  Sorry)
But back to the cricket.
Here I am, in my bedroom, minding my own business, when out of the blue I notice a dark blob on my carpet.  Closer inspection (but not too close) reveals it to be a cricket.  A great big black one, at that. I don't know what it is about them, but they give me the willies!  *shudder*

So I dart into the bathroom and grab a big wad of toilet paper.  Thus armed, I advance back into my room and begin a five minute process of catching and killing this cricket.
IT. WON'T. DIE.  Everytime it moves I shriek and hop back, but then, spurred by the knowledge that if I don't kill it now I would find it in my bed tonight, I go at it again.
Finally, finally, I squeeze it under the toilet paper (cringing when I hear it crunch) and still muttering things like "Ew, gross, I'm going to kill this thing" under my breath I flush it down the toilet.

The really funny thing was that my grandpa was outside my room working on a light switch, and he can hear me every time I squeal or jump or say things like, "Die, cricket!  DIE!" or "I'm going to KILL THIS CRICKET!"
His words of wisdom were, "You know, the men in the marines would sometimes have to eat those." ;)

So what does this have to do with my exciting news?  Weeelllll my exciting news involves death.  Thus, the death of the cricket.  Thus, you find out that I'm terrible at transitions.
Ready for the news?

I FINISHED MY NOVEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finishing is still kind of weird for me.  I've been with these characters for over a year, now.
I feel like I know them, which, in a sense, is true.

Oh yes and the death part.  Well, if you DO end up reading my book, you should mentally prepare yourself.
Because there's a death.
My brother actually predicted it.  His words were, "But you won't kill (blank), will you?"
Oh, Noah.  If only you knew........

But yes, that's my exciting news!  I was in a shock after I finished it.  It's really one of the most rewarding feelings in the world, finishing a book.  And I can't wait to do it again :)
