A little poem

Wednesday, July 31, 2013

So I never write poetry. And that was always fine for me. I might do a little bit with rhythm, but never with words that actually had to RHYME. Heaven forbid!!
When Mary Frances sent me this picture to write about, doing a poem was the farthest from my mind. But as I kept looking, and no immediate story ideas came to mind, I decided to do the unthinkable: write a poem about it!
Please bear with me, I'm new at all this:)

Follow the Yellow Lights
By Chloe Salts

A blink of your eye
Flick of the wrist
Stomp three times
And blow a kiss.

If you do all four
Then you will see
A glimpse of the elves' mystical
Castle-like tree.

The twisting old tree,
It's roots solid and deep
Lights all a floating
The elves still asleep.

Still asleep in their tree
Their castle of might
Their haven and fortress
A place for the night.

To the deep ancient roots
Up to the green leafy tops
A safe place for the elves
And you, if you stop.

If you're ever lost,
Or alone in the night,
Just look for their tree
And follow the lights.

    1. Thanks, Hannah! :-) I had a fun time finding words that rhymed with each other. Harder then it would seem, as I'm sure you found out when you were doing English last year.

  4. I was shocked! (I don't know that I've ever read a poem you wrote?!) But this, I loved it! I found myself wanting to go there, and learn more about the elves! (And live in that tree! Who's with me?)
